AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2023

The Austrian capital from 18 to 21 September was the setting for an event of great importance for the aquaculture sector: AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2023.

This annual conference brought together experts, researchers and professionals from around the world to discuss and address the challenges and opportunities surrounding aquaculture.

The main theme of the conference was “Balanced diversity in aquaculture development“, considering all the specificities of different regions, available natural resources, social realities and the needs of the circular economy. All this, with a view to ensuring responsible use of resources, greater efficiency and the ability to face future challenges, such as disease and climate change.

In this framework the newRIFF project was presented through an explanatory poster, illustrating the concepts and ideas behind the project. newRIFF aims to demonstrate how aquaculture can be innovative and can be a meeting point between different industries.

During the conference, the UNIMI research team also presented the results of the Life Cycle Assessment and the environmental sustainability obtained within the European project SIMTAP (https:///www.simtap.eu/) with a contribution entitled “Determination of the environmental impacts of self-sufficient integrated multitrophic aquaponic systems through life cycle assessment approach”

In conclusion, AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2023 was a prominent conference that focused on the need to diversify and innovate in the aquaculture sector. The event was a crucial opportunity for newRIFF project members to share their ideas, gain insights and have interesting discussions with several industry experts.
